At the same time, more recent pre-owned pinball machines regularly become available on the used market.

If you are looking to buy a used pinball machine, comparing the title, age and price alone is not enough. Two machines of exactly the same title may look very similar at first glance while being in significantly different technical condition. What matters is how intensively the machine has been played, how well it has been maintained and, most importantly, its condition today.

A pinball machine is a complex combination of mechanics, electronics and software. Beneath the playfield, coils, switches, contacts and numerous moving assemblies work together. Flipper mechanisms, bumpers, slingshots, targets, ball devices and other playfield features are subjected to repeated mechanical stress during every game.

For this reason, when refurbishing a used pinball machine we look at the machine as a whole. Mechanical and electrical functions are tested, while relevant assemblies are inspected for wear and technical issues. Necessary wear parts are replaced as part of the reconditioning process, and mechanical components are professionally serviced or repaired where required.

We pay particular attention to the pinball rubbers, which are renewed on our refurbished pinball machines. Rubber rings, flipper rubbers and other rubber components are classic wear parts. They are continuously subjected to impact and mechanical stress during gameplay and can lose elasticity and grip as they age.

Replacing the pinball rubbers is therefore not simply a cosmetic improvement. Rubbers on different parts of the playfield directly influence how the ball rebounds, accelerates and returns across the playfield. The rubbers fitted to the flippers also play an important role in ball control and the overall feel of the game. A fresh set of pinball rubbers is therefore an important part of our refurbishment process.

The playfield, ramps, plastics and other visible components are also taken into account when assessing a machine. Depending on its age and generation, circuit boards, displays, connectors, wiring and other electronic components may require attention as well.

The additional work required always depends on the individual condition of the machine. A classic pinball machine from the 1980s or 1990s naturally presents different technical requirements from a modern game that has only been played for a few years. We therefore do not replace components without reason. Each machine is professionally inspected and the necessary repair, servicing and refurbishment work is carried out according to its actual condition.

Technical condition is essential – but ultimately a pinball machine also has to be fun to play. Many of our used machines can therefore be played in the Survivor Area at our showroom in Bünde, Germany before you make your decision.

This is particularly interesting with used pinball machines because different generations can provide completely different playing experiences. A Williams or Bally classic can feel very different from a modern machine featuring extensive software, numerous missions and complex multiball rules.

Playing the machine yourself allows you to experience its speed, shots, sound, rules and overall character. If you are looking for your first used pinball machine, it is therefore worth looking beyond photographs, production year or the most famous titles. Sometimes the machine that was not originally on your shortlist becomes your favourite after just a few balls.
